Eco Raised Beds

Solway Eco Raised Beds

We have recently introduced a range of Eco Raised Beds which are enjoying a boom in popularity as the country wakens up to the many benefits of raised bed gardening.

The beds allow you grow a range of flowers and vegetables in otherwise unsuitable soils and locations. They are especially handy for wheelchair users and those with back problems. Producers of show vegetables will also find the Eco raised Beds attractive as you can fill them with the ideal growing medium.

Bed sizes available are 1.2m square x 300mm high and 1.2m x 600mm x 300mm height. There is also an optional frame to carry protective netting or fleece available.

EcoGrid Cowtrack Impressess as SAC Crichton

Eco Grid Cow TrackWALKING the dairy herd four times a day between fields and parlour in our increasingly wet and mild climate was made easier using Ecogrid cow tracks at SAC Crichton Farm, Dumfries reports manager Hugh McClymont.

Last autumn Hugh opted to lay cow friendly walk ways to the fields using Ecogrid, a soil stabiliser already used for car parking and buggy tracks at golf courses. Manufactured from recycled waste plastic Ecogrid was supplied by Solway Recycling Ltd of Dumfries, who launched  their latest innovation at the Royal Highland Show.

Speedily and simply laid on top of the ground this plastic grid requires no prior site preparation, is extremely durable with a 20 tonne axle load carrying capacity.

SAC’s Hugh McClymont found herd health improved thus cutting costs as the incidence of lameness and other problems such as mastitis was reduced when cows no longer walked through badly churned up ground.

These environmentally friendly walkways require little maintenance, have minimal visual impact and reduce both soil erosion and poaching.

Not only livestock, but also vehicles move more easily around a farm on an Ecogrid cow track without churning up fields, lanes and gateways.

With Scottish herds of up to a 1000 cows moving considerable distances four or six times a day at milking times Ecogrid cow tracks have a key role to play in improving herd health and reducing costs.

Lambing Pens Huge Success

Quote from another Satisfied Customer:

Just a quick note to say how pleased we are with the lambing pens. They are so easy to use and you know that once the ewe and lamb/s is inside, they are warm and safe.

Several people have seen them and commented on how wonderful they are too so we have passed on your details. You never know...

The good thing is we have been able to get more pens up in the same space and find we are keeping them much cleaner as we move the couples out and bring new ones in.

New Lambing Pens

Like the Shepherd in Bethlehem, Santa brings sheep to Solway at Christmas time & remarkably, he has also brought them in another new product - a Lambing Pen, which is made out of Solway Recycling used farm plastic. Young Gregor Hiddleston, aged 5, who wants to be a vet when he grows up, wanted 6 sheep for Christmas to run in the field beside his sister Annabelle's pony. Both father & son were delighted with Santa's gifts & father Roy says the Lambing Pens will be a big hit with the thousands of sheep farmers who recycle with Solway each year. Young Gregor was a bit shy to have his photograph taken beside the lambing pens, so he asked sister Annabelle to take his place instead.

All farmers who recycle with Solway get discounts on our recycled products range.
